Christening of James Combs in the IGI on 10 August 1800 in Bramshot, Hampshire, parents James and Mary Combs.

His two sisters were christened in Bramshott in 1803 and 1805.

Marriage of James Combes and Sarah Shepherd in FreeBMD in October-December 1845 in Petersfield (7 231).

His two daughters were born in Linchmere in 1846 and 1848.

In the 1851 census as James Combes aged 50, born in Bramshott, Hampshire, a farmer of 60 acres employing 2 men and a boy, and living with his wife (Sarah), two daughters (Elizabeth and Sarah), and four servants (James Stacey aged 22 and born in Bepton, George Young aged 10 (sic - in the index, 20 on the original) and born in Farnhurst, Abeneligo Luff aged 14 and born in Linchmere, and Harriett Frogley aged 19 and born in Linchmere, all single) at Bridge Farm, Linchmere, Sussex.

In the 1861 census as James Combes aged 60, born in Linchmere, Sussex, married but not with his wife, a farmer of 60 acres employing 2 men and a boy, and living with his daughter (Elizabeth), a servant (Daniel Bramel aged 27, single and born in Bramshott, Hampshire and a carter) and a visitor (Mary Frogley aged 52, born in Linchmere, married, and a washer woman) at Bridge Farm, Linchmere, Sussex. His wife was visiting Charles and Ann Inwood at 302 Euston Road, Regents Park, St Pancras, Middlesex (Ann was born in Petersfield, and a Daniel Inwood was married at the same time as James).

His wife died in Linchmere in December 1864.

James Combes was the father of Elizabeth Combes, wife of Albert Baker, my second cousin three times removed.
