"Page 99 Marriage solemnized at St Jude's Church in the parish of St George the Martyr, Southwark in the County of Surrey. No. 197 November sixteenth 1880 Frederick Challis aged 42, a Bachelor and Seaman of 127 New Kent Road, father Joshua Challis, an Accountant, and Caroline Fox aged 22, a Spinster of 33 Marshall Street, father George Fox, an Engineer. Married in the parish Church of St Jude according to the rights and ceremonies of the Established Church by license [...] in the Presence of us Joshua Challis and ? ? ?".

I cannot find entries for him in the 1871 to 1901 censuses, but his wife was living with the two sons at 16 Abbey Street, Plumstead in 1901.

In the entry for the christening of his son Frederick William on 10 March 1886, he was a Ship's Steward living at 52 Mansion House Street, Hammersmith - he was born in Battersea in 1884. His second son was born in Woolwich in 1894.

In the 1911 census as Frederick Challis aged 69, born in Rotherhithe, a seaman in the merchant service, and living with his wife (Caroline) and two sons (Edward James and Frederick William) in four rooms at 33 Gatling Road, Wickham Lane, Plumstead, London.
