Birth of Reginald Gilbert Baker in FreeBMD in October-December 1878 in Islington (1b 413).
In the 1881 census as Reginald Gilbert Baker, aged 2, born in Islington, London, and living with his parents (Robert and Elizabeth Ann), and sister (Millicent Mary) at 5 Devonshire Street, Islington St Mary, London.
In the 1891 census as Reginald Gilbert Baker aged 12, born in Islington, London and living with his parents (Robert and Elizabeth Ann), sister (Millicent Mary) and a servant (Edith Johnson aged 22, single and born in North Meols, Lancashire) at 20 St James Street, North Meols, Lancashire (on A565 NE of Southport).
His sister was born at 129 Sussex Road, Southport, Lancashire in 1895.
I cannot find him in the 1901 census - believed to be in South Africa in the Boer War.
I cannot find in entries in either the English or Alberta 1911 censuses.
There is as an entry in Ancestry All Canada, Soldiers of the First World War, 1914-1918 for Reginald Gilbert Baker born in 1878.
There is an entry in The Canadian Great War Project for Reginald Gilbert Baker Private 435774 in the 50th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was born on 11 July 1878 in Ben Rhydding, Leeds, Yorks, England, enlisted on 4 October 1915 in Calgary, Alberta, and had prior military experience. It was likely he survived the war.
There is also an entry in Nominal Rolls 50th Battalion 1914-1915 3rd, 12th and 13th Regiments Canadian Mounted Rifles 1915-1916 Canadian Expeditionary Force which has similar information adding his previous experience was in S.A.

Baker's of Headley states Robert’s first child, Reginald Gilbert, was born on 7 November 1878. In 1881 the census records him with his family at 5 Devonshire Road, Islington. He married twice: Constance Saunders and Frances Harrison. He served in the army in both the Boer War and the First World War – in which he served apparently in the ‘Canadian Force’.
Susan F Belsey has an entry for Reginald Gilbert Baker born on 7 November 1878, son of Robert Baker and Elizabeth Ann Gilbert and his marriages to Constance Saunders and Francis Harrison. In January 1900 he was serving in the Boer War and in 1915 in the Canadian Force.
There is confusion regarding his birth. His military record gives 11 July 1878 in Ben Rhydding, Leeds, Yorkshire - Ben Rhydding is in Ilkley and his parents and sister were living there in the 1911 census. However Baker's of Headley gives the birth on 7 November 1878, presumably in Islington - I have assumed this was his christening. I guess the marriages were in Canada as there are no entries in the Register of Marriages in the UK.
Reginald Gilbert Baker was my third cousin twice removed.
