In the 1881 census as Emily Baker, no age in the index, but 1 month on the original, born in Churt, and living with her parents (Edward and Maria), brother (Edward), two sisters (Fanny and Maria), and a farm servant (George Collins aged 18, born in Kingsly, Hampshire, and single) at Tilford Road (Hindhead end from other entries), Churt, Farnham, Surrey. The census was held on 3 April 1881.

From the birth of Louisa I assume that the family moved to Thursley before 1885.

In the 1891 census as Emily Baker aged 10, born in Churt, and living with her parents (Edward and Marian), two brothers (Edward and Thomas) and six sisters (Annie, Elizabeth, Fanny, Louisa, Maria and Sarah) at Upper Highfield Farm, Thursley, Surrey.

In the 1901 census as Emily Baker aged 20, born in Churton (sic - in the index, Churt on the original), Surrey, single, employed as a housemaid and living with three other single servants (Ellen Hastings aged 47, born in Ireland and employed as a ladiesmaid, Caroline Powell aged 38, born in Ticehurst, Sussex and employed as a parlourmaid, and Annie Gauntlett aged 19 in the index, 17 on the original, born in Mitcham, Surrey, and employed as a kitchenmaid) at Stroud Park, Grayswood, Witley, Surrey (there is no stated head of household, but the employer was George L Atkinson aged 53, born in Great Ouseburn, Yorkshire, and a rear admiral in the Royal Navy, his wife Alice (Ulice in the index) aged 44 and born in Sydney, NSW, Australia and daughter Margaret J aged 7 and born in Southsea, Hampshire who were living at The Stroud and some fifteen other servants at various addresses).
