Notes

Birth of Andrew Baker in FreeBMD in October-December 1848 in the Farnham District (4 163).

Christening of Andrew Baker in the IGI on 29 October 1848 in Frensham, Surrey, parents Edward and Esther Baker.

In the 1851 census as Albert (sic) Baker aged 2, born in Frensham and living with his parents (Edwardand Esther), brother (Andrew - sic this must be Alfred) and two sisters (Esther who must be Elizabeth, and Ann) at Lower Churt, Frensham.

His mother died in 1857.

In the 1861 census as Andrew Baker aged 12, born in Frensham and living with his widowed father (Edward) and brother (Alfred) in Churt.

Marriage of Andrew Baker and Harriet Barber in FreeBMD October-December 1870 in the Farnham District (2a 136). If his daughter was 2 in the 1871 census, she must have been born before the marriage but I cannot find an entry for Kate or Catherine Baker or Kate or Catherine Barber in the Registry of Births - however there is an entry for a Kale Barber in FreeBMD in July-September 1868 in the Farnham District (2a 102). There is also an entry in FreeBMD for the marriage of Harriet Kate Barber to David Thomas Stacey Farnham District in October-December 1893 (2a 202).

In the 1871 census as Andrew Baker aged 22, born in Frensham, employed as a labourer and living with his wife (Harriett), daughter (Kate) and son (Edward), his mother-in-law (Harriett Barber) and her two sons (Daniel and William) at Lion's Green, Shottermill, Frensham, Surrey.

His wife died in October-December 1878 in the Farnham District (2a 77) according to an entry in FreeBMD.

In the 1881 census aged 32, born in Frensham, widowed, employed as a general labourer and living with his three sons (Andrew, Edward and Frederick) and daughter (Kate) at Lion's Green, Shottermill, Frensham.

In the 1891 census as Andrew Baker aged 42, born in Frensham, a widower, employed as a general labourer, and living with his two sons (Edward and Frederick) and daughter (Kate) at Lion's Lane, Shottermill.

In the 1901 census as Andrew Baker aged 52, born in Frensham, widowed, employed as a general labourer, and living with his daughter (Kate Stacey), her husband (David T), and two daughters (Lilian and Rose Ellen) at Lion Lane, Shottermill, Surrey. Shottermill is now a parish, and no longer part of Frensham.

In The Bakers of Headley it states Edward’s sixth child, Andrew, was born on 29 October 1848. He married Harriet Barber, by whom he had four children, all born in Frensham: Kate born in 1869, Edward in 1871, Andrew in 1873 and Frederick in 1875. Harriet evidently died in the late 1870s, for in 1881 Andrew was recorded as a widower, living at Lion Green, Frensham, and working as a 'general labourer'.
