In the 1891 census as William Buggy aged 12, born in Great Warley, Essex, and living with his parents (John and Mary), brother (William), sister (Mary), and a lodger (George Gardener aged 42, born in Ballastone, Bedfordshire, single and an army persionser) in four rooms in a cottage on Headley Common, Great Warley, Essex.

Entry in Ancestry British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920 for William Buggy attested 25 January 1896 aged 18 years, height 5 ft 7.5 in, 33-34 in chest, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair as private 4612 in the Essex Regiment. His parents were John and Mary Buggy of Headley Common, Great Warley, Brentwood, Essex. On 20 May 1897 he was transfered to the Royal Army Medical Corps to serve with his elder brother. He was at a training school in Aldershot on 29 July 1897. On 30 April 1898 he was at Netley, Hampshire (presumably the Royal Victoria Hospital - the world's longest building when it was completed in 1856). On 22 May 1900 at Netley he was asleep on duty when in charge of insane patients for which 23 days confined to barracks and loss of good conduct badge. He qualified as a lunatic attendent on 26 January 1900. Between 1900 and 1902 he was in the South African war and received the South African Queens and Kings medals. On 17 February 1903 at Maritzburg, Natal he was a qualified lunatic attendent and extended his service to complete twelve years. He was appointed to the nursing section on 22 April 1904. He married Francis Colgan on 18 April 1905 at Hound, Hampshire.. On 30 September 1914 he received the Silver Medal (with gratuity) for long service with good conduct. |He had four children: Richard John on 6 November 1905, William James on 11 December 1906, Jack Henry on 17 March 1908 and Frances Mary on 31 January 1909, all at Netley. His wife died on 30 December 1916. On 8 February 1918 he elected under an Army Order to draw his pension whilst still serving.

In the 1911 census as William Buggy aged 32, born in Brentwood, Essex, married, and a mental attendant in the Royal Army Medical Corps at Royal Victoria Hospital, Hound Near Southampton, Hampshire. His wife was a patient at the same hospital, and the four children at school there (now the Royal Victoria Country Park).

His wife died in South Stoneham in 1916.

His wife died in Knowle, Fareham on 23 March 1942 and left effects of £616 13s. 7d.

William Henry Buggy was the husband of Susanna Field, wife of John Barnett, fourth cousin once removed of Cyril T Larby, my second cousin once removed.
