Birth of Ellen Buckmaster in FreeBMD in January-March 1847 in Hambledon (4 215). Note however that the family used the surname Peto in the census entries.

On a copy of the Entry of Birth number 496 in 1847 in Cranley in the County of Surrey for Ellen Buckmaster on Fourth February 1847 at Shalford, parents James Peto Buckmaster, a bricklayer, and Olive Buckmaster formerly Watson who was the informant and made her mark.

Her brother was born in Guildford in 1850.

In the 1851 census as Ellen Peto (sic - Peto is the surname throughout) aged 4, born in Shalford, Surrey, and living with her parents (James ansd Olive), three brothers (George, James and William), and a visitor (Mary Grantham aged 13 and born in Ewhurst, Surrey) at 7 School House Lane, South Street, Guildford Holy Trinity, Surrey.

In the 1861 census as Ellen Peto (sic - Peto is the surname throughout) aged 14, born in Shalford, Surrey, and living with her parents (James ansd Olive), three brothers (George, James and Wilm), and two sisters (Emily and Jane) at 18 School House Lane, Guildford Holy Trinity, Surrey.

Her husband died in Guildford in 1903.

In the 1911 census as Ellen Mansell aged 64, born in Shalford, of independent means, widowed, and living with her son (George), daughter in law (Annie), granddaughter (Annie Dorothy), daughter (Emily), and grandson (Herbert Solomon) in Farnham, Surrey.

There are two similar entries for Ellen Buckmaster Peto.

The spelling of Cranley was changed by the Post Office to Cranleigh in the 1860s to avoid confusion with Crawley.
