Birth of William Baker in FreeBMD in July-September 1850 in Hambledon (4 211), but appears to have been born in Dockenfield, Hampshire from the 1851 census.

Christening of William Baker in the IGI on 11 August 1850 in Thursley, Surrey, parents Richard and Mary Baker.

Not in the Ancestry 1851 census which omits Thursley, but in the West Surrey Family History Society 1851 census as William Baker aged 7 months, born in Dockenfield, Hampshire, and living with his parents (Richard and Mary), three brothers (James, John and Richard) and three sisters (Fanny, Martha and Jane) in Thursley.

His first brother was born in Thursley in 1852 but christened in Frensham, and second was christened in Shalford in 1854

His mother died in 1860 in Shalford.

In the 1861 census as William Baker aged 10, born in Thursley, Surrey, and living with his widowed father (Richard), four brothers (Fredrick, James, John and Richard), two sisters (Jane and Mary), cousin (Mary Ann Baker), aunt? (Eliza Loveland), and a servant (Mary Smithers aged 18, born in Thursley, Surrey and single) in Chinthurst Lane, Shalford, Surrey.

In the 1871 census as William Baker aged 17, born in Shalford, single, a shepherd, and boarding with Henry Turrell (aged 31, born in Bramley, and a carman at a tannary), his wife (Mary aged 30 and born in Shalford), two sons (George aged 7 and Henry aged 2, both born in Shalford), mother-in-law (Susan Edwards aged 56, born in Wonersh, Surrey and widowed), and her son (John aged 19, born in Shalford, single and a carman) at Gosden Common, Shalford, Surrey.

In the 1881 census as William Baker aged 29, born in Thursley, Surrey, single, a printer & stationer, and living with his brother-in-law (George Scovell), married sister (Martha), son (Richard H), four daughters (Annie, Emily J, Fanny and Marty E), two cousins (Mary Hart and Annie Hart), two servants (Elizabeth Bond aged 41, born in Swaffon, Suffolk, widowed and a cook, and Mary White aged 23, born in Winchfield, Surrey, single and a housemaid) at The Mall, Hampton Road, Twickenham, Middlesex.

"1889 Marriage solemnized at St Pauls Church in the Parish of St Mary Newington in the County of Surrey No 337 Twenty Third February 1889 William Baker aged 38, a bachelor and a warehouseman of 56 St Pauls Road, father Richard Baker, a farmer, and Louisa Coates aged 38, a spinster of the Parish of Paradwis, Llandudno (I assume Paradwys on Angelsey), father John Coates, a cabinet maker."

In the 1891 census as William Baker aged 40, born in Einlyn Thurrley, Surrey, a warehouseman's assistant, and living with his wife (Louisa) in two rooms in E Block, Peabody Square on the west side of Blackfriars Road, London Road, St George the Martyr, London.

In the 1901 census as William Baker aged 50, born in Godalming, Surrey, a wholesale drapers salesman, and living with his wife (Louisa) in two rooms at 24 Block E, Peabody Square, Blackfriars Road, London Road, St George the Martyr, London.

Death of William Baker in FreeBMD in January-March 1904 aged 53 in St Olave (1d 162).

Baker's of Headley states Richard’s ninth child, William, was born in 1850, in Dockingfield, Hants. The following year he was living with the rest of the family at Emly Farm, Thursley. In 1861 he was living with the family at Chinthurst Lane in Shalford, described as a ‘scholar’. In 1881 he was living, still unmarried, with his sister Martha (now Scovell) and her family at The Mall, Hampton Road, Twickenham: he is described as a “printer & stationer”.

Susan F Belsey has an entry for William Baker, baptised 11 August 1850 in Thursley, Surrey, son of Richard Baker and Mary Loveland.
