Birth of Walter John Adams in FreeBMD in July-September 1869 in Loddon (4b 198) which included Topcroft.
Christening of Walter Adams in the IGI on 15 August 1869 in Topcroft, Norfolk, parents George and Sarah Adams.
In the 1871 census as Walter J Adams aged 1, born in Topcroft, Norfolk, and living with his parents (George and Sarah), and brother (George) in Church Green, Topcroft.
In the 1881 census as Walter J Adams aged 12, born in Topcroft and living with his parents (George and Sarah), brother (George) and sister (Bessie) at 17 Brickfield, Ovenden, Yorkshire.
In the 1891 census as Waller (sic - in the index, correct on the original) Adams aged 21, born in Topcroft, employed as a cotton sciber, and boarding with Leonard Warsdson (aged 41, born in Halifax, Yorkshire and employed as a carpet dealer and publican), his wife (Catherine Warsdson aged 41 and born in Staleybridge, Lancashire), and two other boarders (Joseph Leick aged 53, born in Liverton (sic - Tiverton), Devon, widowed and employed as a labourer in the works, and William Sinpson aged 39 , born in Ovenden, Yorkshire, single and employed as a welder (boiler maker)) at 11 Penge Bank ? Inn, Northowram , Yorkshire. There are two definitions of sciber in Old Occupation Names - someone who marked bales of cotton on the docks with weight prior to being sold by brokers and a person who tends a wool/cotton-combing machine called a Scribler - the first process in carding the yarn. I suspect the second one in this case.

In the 1911 census as Walter John Adams aged 40, born in Topcroft, Norfolk, a telephone wireman, and living with his wife (Mary Emma) in three rooms at 15 Salterhebble Hill, Halifax, Yorkshire.
