Notes

Entry in the IGI for the birth of Hagar Adams on 13 August 1835, and her christening on 1 November 1835 at the Wesleyan (Chapel), New Buckenham, Norfolk, parents John and Ann Adams. It is not clear where she was born, Shotesham according to all the censuses. I cannot find christenings for any of her syblings. Had her parents just converted to Methodism, and was New Buckenham the nearest chapel to Shotesham? New Buckenham is some 13 miles SW of Shotesham.

In the 1841 census as Hagar Adams aged 5, born in Norfolk, and living with John and Ann (parents?), Amos and Enoch (brothers?), Emily, Maria and Mary (sisters?) at Shottesham St Mary, Norfolk.

In the 1851 census as Hagar Adams aged 14, born in Shotesham, and living with her parents (John and Ann), brother (Enoch), and two sisters (Emily and Mary Ann) at 2 Filands Cottages, Shotesham St Mary.

Her mother died in 1853.

In the 1861 census as Hughes (sic - in the index, correct on the original) Adams aged 24, born in Shotesham St Mary, unmarried, employed as a dressmaker and living with her unmarried sister Mary (who was the head of the household) and two visitors (Emily Alderton who was her married sister and nephew Frederick Alderton) at The Street, Shotesham All Saints. Her father was an inmate at Trinity Hospital, Greenwich St Alphege, Kent.

Marriage of Hagam (sic - in the index, correct on the original) Adams and William Dickerson in FreeBMD in January-March 1862 in Henstead (4b 307) which included Shotesham.

In the 1871 census as Hagar Dickerson aged 32, born in Shottesham, employed as a dressmaker, and living with her husband (William) and unmarried sister (Mary Adams) in Nelson Cottages, Trafalger Street, Lakenham, Norfolk.

In the 1881 census as Hagar Dickerson aged 45, born in Shottesham, Norfolk and living with her husband (william) and son (Henry W) in Trafalger Street, Lakenham, Norfolk.

In the 1891 census as Hager Dickerson aged 55, born in Shottesham, and living with her husband (William), son (Harry W) and widowed mother (Mary A Sexton - although it clearly states mother on the original, this was her widowed sister) at 61 Trafalger Street, Lakenham, Norfolk.

Her husband died in 1898.

In the 1901 census as Hager Dickerson aged 64, born in Strotesham, All Saints, Norfolk, widowed, and living with her son (Harry Wm Dickerson) and widowed sister (Mary Ann Sexton) in four rooms at 61 Trafalger Street, Lakenham St Mark, Norfolk.
