George Crutcher 1803-a1839
I am not sure if he was Croucher (as given in the 1881 census) or Crutcher as in the 1891 and 1901 censuses, and as used for the names of his children. I can not identify his father or mother except her name was Annie and she was aged 42, born in Alton and a hawker. She was widowed in the 1881 census.
In 1881 census (spelt Croucher) aged 17, born in Netley, unmarried, a hawker and living with his mother, two brothers and a sister and an Issac Light aged 43 (born at Mere, Dorset) at Vine Cottage, Kinson, Dorset. From the birth of his siblings, lived Houghton, Hampshire from about 1867 to about 1871, moving to Mere, Hampshire by 1873 (is this Mere, Wiltshire?).
Henry Crutcher married Matilda Barney in Lymington District in April-June 1888 in FreeBMD. His wife had lived at Kinson, Dorset between 1871 and 1875 (Kinson and Holdenhurst are only a couple of miles apart, and are part of Bournemouth/Christchurch).
In 1891 census (spelt Crutcher on original as well as in index) aged 26, born in Netley, a licenced hawker, and living with his wife and daughter at Ashley Road, Poors Common, Springbourne, Christchurch, Dorset.
In 1901 census (spelt Crutcher) aged 35, born in Totton according to the Ancestry Index (a couple of miles from Netley), but spelt Yolton in the PRO Index (although this looks more like the original entry it is obviously incorrect as there is no such place in Hampshire), employed as a basketmaker, and living with his wife, two sons, three daughters, and adopted son (Walter Perrott aged 10 and born in Wincanton, Somerset) in a caravan in Holdenhurst, Bournemouth.
