Birth of Matilda Maria Marden in FreeBMD in January-March 1869 in Farnham (2a 109). I guess she was born at The Lion at Shottermill from the 1861 and 1901 censuses.
The family moved from Frensham to Thursley about 1870 from the births of Leonard.
In the 1871 census as Matilda M Marden aged 2, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with her parents (George and Maria), two brothers (George and Leonard), three sisters (Agnes, Ellen and Kate), and a domestic servant (Jane Keen aged 16 and born in Thursley) at Hammer Pond, Thursley, Elstead, Witley, Surrey. This was the Half Moon public house on the north side of the A3 between Thursley and Milford near the old silk mill.
In the 1881 census as Matilda M Marden aged 12, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with her parents (George and Maria), four brothers (F. George, George Tyndale, Leonard and William), and three sisters (Ellwen, Kate and Mary) at West Marden, Up Marden, Sussex.
I cannot find an entry in the 1891 census.
In the 1901 census as Matilda Marden aged 27, born in Hasebourne (sic - in the index, Haslemere on the original), Surrey, single, employed as a barmaid and living at the Southdown Hotel, 2 & 3 Howard Square, Eastbourne, Sussex. In addition to the proprietor (Marie L Zeder) and her daughter (Fanny L Zeder) there were 8 other servants, and 8 visitors.
Up Marden is about 10 miles NW of Chichester.
Kate Marden was my second cousin twice removed.
