The family moved from Frensham to Thursley about 1870 from the births of Matilda and Leonard.
In the 1871 census as George Marden aged 4, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with his parents (George and Maria), brother (Leonard), four sisters (Agnes, Ellen, Kate and Matilda M), and a domestic servant (Jane Keen aged 16 and born in Thursley) at Hammer Pond, Thursley, Elstead, Witley, Surrey. This was the Half Moon public house on the north side of the A3 between Thursley and Milford near the old silk mill.
In the 1881 census as F George Marden aged 13, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with his parents (George and Maria), three brothers (George (James), Leonard and William), and four sisters (Ellwen, Kate, Mary and Matilda M) at West Marden, Up Marden, Sussex.
