His brother was baptised on 6 June 1833 at All Saints, Crondall when theyy were living in Crookham.
In the 1841 census as John Croucher, aged 12, born in Surrey (incorrect, but so are most of the entries), and living with James and Marther (parents?), Charles, James, and William (brothers?), and Ann, Jane, Marcy and Marther (sisters?) at Stream (between Ridgeway anfd Highcombe Bottom), Pitch Place, Elstead, Surrey.
His father died in 1844 in Elstead and the family moved to Crookham. I cannot find him in the 1851 census but he was not living with his mother (there is an error in this entry because his mother has two daughters Jane aged 12 and 10 - was one of these John whose age would have been 22?
