Marriage of John Croucher and Martha Salter in the IGI on 29 April 1731 in Woolavington, Sussex. There are two submitted entries in the IGI for the marriage of John Croucher of Eastdean, Sussex, one giving just the date 28 April 1731, the other giving the place as Eastdeans and the wife's name as Martha Salter.
There are three entries in the Sussex Family History Group Sussex Marriage Index. One is for an Archdeaconry of Chichester Marriage Licence, dated 28 Apr 1731 for John Croucher, a bachelor yeoman of East Dean, and Martha Salter, a maiden of the same parish, with a Jn Dear junr, gent of Chichester present. The other two are for the marriage of John Croucher and Martha Salter on 29 April 1731, one in East Dean and the other in Woolavington.
The four children were christened in East Dean, the surname being spelt Crowcher for all except John.

There is an entry in the Sussex Electorial Poll of 1734 taken by Henry Montague Esq, Sheriff of the County of Sussex, at Chichester on 9/10 May 1734 for the election of two knights to serve in parliment, for John Croucher of East Dean with freehold in Walberton. Does it refer to this John or his father?
Woolavington is on the north side of the Downs, SW of Petworth, and consisted of several detached areas, now going under the name Lavington, but Woolavington Down still exists above Seaford College. Walberton is eight miles southeast of East Dean.
