In the 1891 census as John Cronchar (sic - in the index, correct on the original), aged 6, born in West Lavant, Sussex, and living with his parents (Edward and Charlotte), four brothers (Alfred, Charles, Fredrick and James), and two sisters (Charlotte and Gertrude) at Tortington Farm, Tortington, Sussex.

In the 1901 census as John H Croucher aged 16, and a member of the crew on HMS ST Vincent, a first class training ship in Portsmouth tohether with 355 others plus three passengers (relatives of the Commander).

In the 1911 census as John Henry Croucher aged 26 in the Military in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Entry in the Register of Deaths for John H Croucher in July-September 1957 aged 72 in Chichester (5h 461).
