Notes

Birth of a Male Croucher in FreeBMD in January-March 1861 in Lambeth (1d 394).

Christening of John Arthur Darby Croucher in the IGI on 3 April 1861 at Saint John The Evangelist, Lambeth, Surrey, parents John Honor and Henrietta Ann Croucher.

In the 1861 census as John Croucher aged 2 months, and living with his parents (John H and Henrietta A), four sisters (Ada M, Constance E, Henrietta and Katherine M) and widowed grandmother (Elizabeth) at 4 Vassal? Terrace, Lambeth St Mary, Surrey.

His brother Walter was born in Handsworth, Staffordshire in 1865.

I cannot find any later information except the following entry in the RootsWeb News Archives dated 28 June 2006:

This may have been in Townsville, Queensland between Cairns and Brisbane.

An email from Julie Dern adds

Croydon is some 300 miles WNW of Townsville. Gold was discovered there in 1885, and as his father was a mining agent I assume there is a connection here. His mother died in Brent in 1871 although I cannot find entries in the 1871 census so I assume the father took at least John to Australia.
