In the 1881 census as John A Croucher aged 10, born in Brookhurst, Hampshire,and living with his parents (Alfred A and Elizabeth H C), and two visitors (John English aged 20 and born in Belfast, and John Kerslake aged 22 and born in Bradford, both single and Royal Navy seaman) at the Sea Horse, 152 Queen Street, Portsea, Hampshire.

I cannot find entries in the 1901 or 1911 censuses.

Entry in the Register of Deaths for John A Croucher in January-March 1932 aged 61 in Portsmouth (2b 789).

Note Portsea became Portmouth in 1900.
