Notes

Entry in the Register of Births for Harriet Adas Croucher in October-December 1852 in Alton (2c 117).

Christening of Harriett Edith Croucher in the IGI on 2 January 1853 in Binsted Near Alton, Hampshire, parents Henry Croucher and Sarah.

Her father died 1853? and her mother married William Simpson in 1860.

In the 1861 census as Harriett Chrousker (sic - in the index) aged 8, born in Binsted, and living with her mother (Sarah Simpson), stepfather (William Simpson), brother (William), half brother (John) and a lodger (Henry Gruwell - more like Gruncle on the original) at South Hay Farm, Binsted, Hampshire.

She had a daughter, Edith Florence S Croucher, in 1870.

In the 1871 census as Harriett Simpson aged 18, born in Binsted, unmarried, no stated employment, and living with her mother (Sarah Simpson - her stepfather was lodging elsewhere in Binsted with William Kimber and family), daughter (Edith Sarah Simpson), a lodger (Frederick Chandler aged 20, born in Frensham, unmarried, and employed as an agricultural labourer - this may have been the brother of her future husband), and another lodger (George Gilham) at Rowledge, Binsted (the previous address in the census was at Batts Corner).

She had a son, Henry Croucher, in 1875.

Entry in FreeBMD for the marriage of Harriett Ada Croucher and Andrew George Fullick in in October-December 1877 in Farnham (2a 180), just before the birth of Albert Fullick.

In the 1881 Census as Harriett Fullick aged 28, born in Binsted, head of the household and wife of agricultural labourer, but her husband is not present, and living with a son (Henry Croucher) and daughter (Edith Croucher), and another son (Albert Fullick) and daughter (Annie Fullick) at Blacknest, Binsted. I cannot definately locate her husband, but suspect he was living with his brother under the name Chandler, due to poaching offences. Annie was only 4 months old so this must have been a recent arrangement.

In the 1891 census as Harriet Fullick aged 38 born in Binsted, head of the household, married (but not living with her husband), employed as a charwoman, and living with a son (Henry Croucher) and daughter (Edith Croucher), and another three sons (Albert, Ernest and William Fullick) and daughter (Annie Fullick) in 4 rooms at Lower Farm, Blacknest, Binsted. Her husband was in Gillingham prison sentenced to five years in 1889 for offences associated with poaching.

In the 1901 Census as Harriet Fullick, aged 46, born in Binsted, widowed, no stated employment, and living with her son (Henry Fullick - I assume this was Henry Croucher) in 3 rooms at 10 Binsted Street, Binsted. I have not found any records for the death of her husband, but also cannot find an entry for him in the 1901 census.

The Rev. Laverty states that "Fullick Andrew Mrs and son Came to Standford 1910. He really a Chandler. Changed name after poaching affray. She a Croucher and 1st cousin to Standford Hill." I assume that this is refering to this Harriett. It is not clear who changed their name - the son or his father. However the son was probably Henry Croucher who is Henry Fullick in the 1901 census, but his father has not been identified. It could have been a Chandler - Frederick Chandler was lodging with Harriett's mother in the 1871 census, but I don't believe he was the father because Edith Croucher had already been born and they would have either married or he would have left. Frederick did have a brother Andrew who may have been christened Andrew Fullick, son of Jane Fullick, but whose birth registration was Andrew Chandler (Andrew Fullick and Andrew Chandler are never found in the same census). Andrew Chandler/Fullick was brought up in Rowledge and Harriett must have known him. I assume he was the father of all the children.
