Sailed to America in January 1772 with his parents. Had a short stay in New York before moving to Canada. The 1881 census shows George Croucher in the George Waters household. He aquired concession F, lot 31 in Medora Township on Jan. 3, 1887 (73 acres).
The land at Craigie Lea was given to them by Ruth's father (George Waters).
George built his house in 1885. In its day, it was a stylish Victorian house with a cherry gingerbread trim and verandahs on 3 sides. George and Ruth raised 6 children here, kicking off a line of descendants who continue to live and work on the lakes today. The house was demolished in the 1960's.
George's expertise as a sawyer was very much in demand as hotel builders called him to fashion tongue and groove planking for floors - all was done by hand.
The Craigie Lea Post Office operated out of the Croucher's home for some years and for a brief time, school children took their lessons in the Croucher's front room.
George was Postmaster 1889 - 1890 and from 1928 until his death in 1931 in Craigie Lea.
