In the 1841 census as Frank Croucher aged 20 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Kent, a carpenter and living with John and Mary (parents?), Alban, Jabez and John (sons?) at Christmas Cottages, Gillingham, Kent.

Marriage of Frank William Croucher and Selina Bethney in FreeBMD in July-September 1842 in Medway (5 418).

His sons Frederick and Hubert born in Gillingham in 1844 and 1845, two daughters (twins?) Rechender Julia and Traverna (Trevenia) Mary were born in Chatham in 1846 and christened in Gillingham in April 1849, and his son Malcolm was born in Chatham in 1848.

In the 1851 census as Frank W Croucher aged 31, born in Gillingham, Kent, a carpenter and living with his wife (Selenia), two sons (Hubert and Michael) and daughter (Richender) at Church Road, New Brompton, Gillingham, Kent. His widowed mother (Mary) and two brothers (Alban and Jabez) were living separately at the same address.

His daughter Julia Amelia was born in Lambeth in 1853 and son Frank Alban Thomas at St Martins in the Fields in 1855, son Ferdinand in St Giles in 1857 and Horace William in Chatham in 1859.

His wife died at St Martins in the Fields in 1860.

His daughter Emma Jane was born in Drury Lane, Middlesex in 1861 - I guess Eliza Challenor was her mother.

In the 1861 census as Frederic (sic - on the original) Croucher aged 36, born in Gillingham, Kent, widowed, a carpenter and living with a housekeeper (Eliza Croucher not married - I assume this was Eliza Challenor who he married in 1865), four sons (Alban S, Ferdinand F, Horace and Malcolm J), and three daughters (Emma Jane, Julia A and Trevinia M) at 1 Kings Head Yard, Long Acre, Westminster St Martin in the Fields , Middlesex. Another family lived at the same address.

His daughter Emma Jane was born in Drasy Lane, Middlesex in 1861, but from Arthur in 1864 the children were born in St Anne, Soho.

In the 1871 census as Frank Wm Croucher aged 50, born in Gillingham, Kent, married but not with his wife, a carpenter and joiner, and living with his five sons (Alfred, Allan, Arthur, Ferdinand and Horace), and four daughters (Anne, Emma, Julia and Louise) at 23 Little Newport Street, St Anne Soho, Westminster. Another five families lived at the same address. His wife was a patient at Charing Cross Hospital, St Martin in The Fields.

His son Alfred James died in Medway within three months of the 1871 census.

His daughter Florence was born in Gillingham in 1880 (was she really his daughter?).

In the 1881 census as Chow (sic - in the index, original illegible) Croucher, aged 61, born in Chatham, Kent, a blacksmith, and living with his wife (Eliza), two sons (Arthur and Horace), and four daughters (Ann, Emma, Florence and Laura) at 38 Napier Rd, Gillingham, Kent.
