Christening of Emily Croucher in the IGI on 5 April 1874 in Cuckfield, Sussex, parents Isaac and Rebecca Croucher. There is also a submitted entry giving her birth in 1874 in Cuckfield, parents Isaac Croucher and Rebecca Pattenden.
The family moved to Linton, Derbyshire soon after her birth, and returned to Cuckfield after her mother's death in 1879.
In the 1881 census as Emily Croucher aged 7, born in Cuckfield, and living with her widowed father (Isaac), brother (Charles E), two sisters (Annie and Elizabeth), and aunt (Betsey Pattenden) at North Land Cottage, Brook Street, Cuckfield, Sussex.
In the 1891 census as Emily Croucher aged 17, born in Cuckfield, Sussex, and a servant living with Albert Sayers (aged 52, born in Ardingley and a grocer and draper), his wife (Anna aged 54 and born in Mansfield, Sussex), his two daughters (Charlotte aged 22 and Elizabeth A aged 27, both in born in Ardingley, single and no stated employment), four shopmen/apprentices (Archibald J Les aged 17, and born in Lewes, Sussex, Edwin W Moore aged 27 and born in Lewes, John Paik aged 18 and born in Newtown, Huntingdonshire, and Henry Taylor aged 20 and born in London), and another servant (Margaret Holman aged 18 and born in Ardingley) near Hapstead (address illegible), Ardingly (spelt Ardingley in the index), Sussex.
