Ian and Sarah Middlebrook's site gives the birth as about 1774 at Sopley, but no parents. He worked as a bricklayer's labourer, married Anne Etheridge (daughter of Henry Etheridge and Mary Handcock) at Christchurch Priory on 16 December 1793 and had eight children. From their christenings the family lived at Ringwood in 1794, Brockenhurst in 1795 and Boldre thereafter. He died of old age at Portmore Common, Boldre on 18 August 1857, and was buried at Boldre. Note that James is not listed, but his entry comes from a burial in Sopley and his parents are a guess.
