In the 1841 census as Elizabeth Croucher aged 4, born in Sussex, and living with William (father?), Ann (mother?), Alfred, Frederick, George, Owens and Williamss (brothers?) , Mary (sister?) and J Moore (aged 20, born in Sussex, a lodger? and a mariner) at Gun Garden, Rye, Sussex.
In the 1851 census as Eliza Croucher aged 13, born in Rye, Sussex, employed as a maid servant and living with two other servants (there is no stated head of household) Sarah Dawes (aged 44, born in Wittersham, Kent, unmarried and employed as a housekeeper) and Henry Bailey (aged 25, born in Lydd, Kent and employed as a groom) in Lydd.

In the 1861 census as Eliza Brakfield (sic - in the index, original is illegible), aged 23, born in Rye and living with her husband (James), daughter (Elizabeth Ann) and her parents (William and Ann Croucher) at Iden Green, Goudhurst, Kent.
Her father died in 1865 in Cranbrook (which included Goudhurst) and her mother in 1870 in Hastings so the family must have moved between those two dates.
In the 1871 census as Eliza Brackfield (sic), aged 33, born in Rye, and living with her husband (James), two daughters (Elizabeth A and Mary A), and a neice (Mary J Croucher who may have been the daughter of her sister Mary Ann) at 8 St Margarets Terrace, Hastings, Sussex.
In the 1881 census as Eliza Bradfield (sic) aged 43, born in Rye, and living with her husband (James) and daughter (Elizabeth A) at Gardeners Cottage, St Mary In The Castle, Hastings, Sussex.
