In the 1851 census as Eli Croucher aged 3, born in Buriton, and living with his parents, brother (William), three sisters (Elizabeth, Mariah, and Susan), and a lodger at Lower Nursted, Buriton, Hampshire.

In the 1861 census as Eli Croucher aged 12, born in Burton (sic), and living with his parents, and two brothers (George and John) and sister (Harriete) at Tanyard Road, Steep, Hampshire.

His father died before 1871.

In the 1871 census as Eli Croucher aged 23, born in Liss, unmarried, employed as a labourer, and living with his mother, two sisters (one unnamed - Susannah, and Hart - Harriet), two bothers (Geo - George and Mo - John) and two nephews (Wall Wm and Wm Sarah) in the vicinity of Adhurst Farm, Liss, Hampshire.

In the 1881 census as Eli Croucher aged 32, born in Petersfield, employed as a foreman of coll? wharf and living with his wife, two sons (John and William E) and daughter (Minnie E) at 18 Claxton St, Portsea, Hampshire (this was shared with another family).

In the 1891 census as Eli Croucher aged 42, born in Portsmouth, employed as a farm labourer, and living with his wife, four sons (George E, John, Sidney and William) and two daughters (Alice H and Minnie) at 110 Hartford St, Portsea.

In the 1901 census as Eli Croucher aged 52, born in Portsmouth, employed as a carter on a farm, and living with his wife, two sons (George Ernest and Sydney) and two daughters (Alice Harriett and Emma Amelia) at 7 Highland Terrace, Portsmouth.

I am not sure whose son John was as I have not yet identified him in the 1871 census.

Buriton is 3 miles south of Petersfield and Steep is 2 miles north.
