Birth and christening in IGI - no father.

In 1871 Census aged 64, born in Batley (sic. Botley), married but not living with his wife, employed as a builders clerk and living with his son and daughter at 25 Clipstone Street, Marylebone, Middlesex.

In 1881 census aged 74, born in Botley, widowed, employed as a surveyor, and living with his two sons, daughter, grandson and Celia J Catchpole (aged 9, born in St Pancras, Middlexsex and employed as a domestic servant) at 25 Clipstone Street, Marylebone, Middlesex.

Lived in Southwark in 1837, moved to Lambeth between 1837 and 1842, and to Marylebone between 1845 and 1851.

Death in FreeBMD in April-June 1884 in Marylebone district.

"Daniel Croucher was the illegitimate son of Mary Anne Croucher. She married William Chase on the 16th of April 1811 and had another daughter and three sons from that marriage. They seemed to have lived in Titchfield. Mary Anne was the daughter of John Croucher and Eleanor Binstead (Nee Houghton) who married in Botley on the 12th of August 1784. Although Eleanor Houghton's family can be traced right back to 1500 also in Titchfield, no one has so far been able to trace John Croucher's family prior to his marriage in Botley. There is a suggestion he was also born in Titchfield around 1750, but no proof and there was another Croucher family in Titchfield, which it is not thought he was connected to. Daniel's wife was Mary Primmer, but we don't have any date for the marriage."
