Birth of Arthur John Croucher in FreeBMD in January-March 1887 in Westhampnett (2b 377) which included Singleton.

In the 1891 census as Arthur J Croucher aged 4, born in Singleton, and living with his parents (James and Kate), brother (Ernest ), sister (Winifred) and a boarder (actually his halfbrother George Smith who is given the wrong date of birth in the index - 1850 instead of 1877) in 4 rooms at Leamons Cottages, Singleton.

In the 1901 census as Arther (sic - in the index, Arthur on the original) Croucher aged 14, born in Singleton, and living with his parents (James and Kate), and two brothers (Ernest and George - George was his halfbrother George Smith) in a 4 room cottage in Singleton.

In the 1911 census as John Croucher aged 24, born in Singleton and living in Steyning, Sussex.

Marriage of Arthur Croucher to Emily R Garratt and Rose E Garratt in FreeBMD in October-December 1913 in Steyning (2b 657).

A daughter Murial Garratt was born in October-December 1913 in Steyning (2b 458) - she was born two months after the marriage but had the surname Garratt.

Entry in Ancestry British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 Record for Arthur John Croucher aged 29 years 4 months, address 11 Wolseby Road, Portslade, a carman for furniture removers, height 5 ft 7.5 inches, chest 36+3 inches, married to Emily Rose Garratt on 11 October 1913 in Hove and a daughter Murial born on 8 December 1913 in Steyning, and attested on 27 May 1916 in Brighton as a private in the Royal Engineers Railway and Canal Troops number 181342, transfered to Army Reserve on 28 May 1916, posted on 23 June 1916 as a sapper number 181782, and embarked to BEF on 11 September 1916, transfered to Class Z Army Reserve number 280342 on discharge on 11 October 1919 at Crystal Palce to same address. He had a minor accident - in the Loco Shop driving a steel pin into the axle box of Engine 3843 when a small piece of steel was chipped off the head of the pin and penetrated his finger, but was admitted to hospital on 8 December 1916.

His daughter Della was born in Steyning in 1920.

His wife died in Brighton in 1963.
