Notes

Entry in the FreeBMD for Amelia Caroline Croucher in April-June 1860 in Southampton (2c 25)

In the 1861 census as Amelia Croucher aged 11 months, born in Southampton, and living with her parents (John and Betsy) at B Baltic Wharf No. 1, Southampton St Mary, Hampshire which was shared with another family.

In the 1871 census as Amelia Croucher aged 10, born in Southampton, and living with her mother (Betsey), her father being a seaman at sea, and two brothers (Edward and Henry) at 41 Chapel Road, St Mary, Southampton (shared with another family).

In the 1881 census as Amelia Croucher aged 20, born in Southton, single, employed as a general servant, and living with her parents (John and Betsy), brother (Henry) and two boarders (William Grove and William Lamprey) at 8 Albert Street, Southampton St Mary.

Her father died at the end of 1881.

In the 1891 census as Amelia Croucher aged 30, born in Southampton, unmarried, no stated employment, and living with her widowed mother (Betsy), a boarder (William Groves aged 39, born in Southampton, single and employed as a shipwright), a visitor (Kate Wellman aged 2 and born in Southampton), and a lodger (Emma Haynes aged 24, born in Cape Town and married) and her son (Eli H Haynes aged 5 months and born in Australia) in 3 rooms at 8 Albert Street, St Mary, Southampton. Another two rooms were occupied by Jesse and Jane Calloway (aged 26 and 24, born in Scotland and Portsmouth, and he was employed as a dock labourer- he is described as a lodger so I assume these were let).

In the 1901 census as Amelia Croucher aged 40, born in Southampton, single, employed letting lodgings, and living with her widowed mother (Betsy), a nephew (Henry), neice (Betsy) and a boarder (William Groates aged 49, born in Southampton, single and employed as a shipwright) in three rooms at 8 Albert Road which was shared with two other families (I assume these were let). I assume the nephew and neice were children of her brother Henry in which case Henry occurs twice in the census, the other entry being under his parents name.

In the 1911 census as Amelia Croucher aged 51 and living with Betsey (mother?) and Edward (brother?) in Southampton.

Entry in FreeBMD for the death of Amelia C Croucher in January-March 1913 aged 52 in Southampton (2c 33).
