Notes
Entry in the Register of Births for Alice Croucher in January-March 1881 in Lambeth (1d 486).
In the 1881 census as Alice Croucher aged 1 month, born in Lambeth and living with her parents (Alfred and Elizabeth), and bother (Alfred) and two sisters (Emma and Mary) at 7 Gladstone Place, Lambeth, London.
From Tom Croucher in Australia:
She sailed with the rest of the family on S.S. Texan on 5 April 1884 from Plymouth arriving on 23 May 1884 in Sydney. Planning to be married in 1901 she discovered that her husband to be was already married. Apparently Alice and her friend were not prepared to end the relationship, and her family were not willing to accept it, so she moved out of home and rented a place in Waterloo. In 1902 she became pregnant and her baby (Eleanor Mary Croucher) was born in November 1902. Further tragedy struck when in March 1903 Alice contracted Scarlet Fever and died within a week. Her mother looked after Eleanor, who unfortunately died of Bronchitis in December 1903.
Dennis Lamb has an entry in RootsWeb WorldConnect for Alice Croucher born about 1880 in Surrey, parents Alfred Robert Croucher and Elizabeth Treasure, her immigration in Australia on 23 May 1884 in Sydney on the Texan with her parents, and her death in NSW.
